The Institute of Social Work (ISW) was established by the National Social Welfare Training Institute Act No. 26 of 1973, as amended by the Written Laws (Miscellaneous Amendments) Act No.3 of 2002. It is mandated to conduct training, research and consultancy. The training programmes apply the competence-based approach with an intention to equip students with knowledge, skills, understanding, and wider attributes that are important in the current national industrialisation agenda. In this fact the Institute focuses on producing the human capital and not merely the human resources. Furthermore, the Institute promotes the basic and applied research and, consultancy projects that address the national, community, business and individual needs. The Institute research and consultancy agenda intends to provide key stakeholders with innovative, relevant, realistic and cost-effective solutions and recommendations.
